Our Story
The idea for YBM Biodegradable came from what we see around us every day. Plastic bags lying along roadsides, floating in rivers, and harming animals have become far too common. Once plastic is used, it stays in the environment for years, causing damage that is difficult to undo.
Seeing this reality made us pause and reflect. We asked ourselves a simple question: if not now, then when? That question became the starting point of our journey.
Our story is not about making big changes overnight. It is about starting with what is possible and doing our part. We believe that even one biodegradable bag matters. It may feel like a small effort, but many small efforts together can lead to lasting change.

YBM Biodegradable began with a simple question that stayed with me for a long time: If not now, then when?
I have always believed that protecting our environment is not someone else’s responsibility. It is ours. Like many people, I watched plastic slowly become a part of our everyday life. It made things easier, but it also began to harm the land we love. Plastic bags in rivers, on roadsides, and in open fields became a normal sight. What worried me most was the thought of what we might leave behind for the next generation.
YBM Biodegradable was started from this concern. It was not just a business idea, but a personal decision to act rather than wait. I wanted to create something meaningful, something that encourages people to pause and think about their daily choices. Even one biodegradable bag used instead of plastic feels like a small step, but small steps taken together can lead to real change.
I come from Haa, a place that teaches you the value of nature simply by living in it. My education in India and later in the United Kingdom gave me exposure to the wider world, but it also made me realize how important it is to protect what we have at home. Before becoming an entrepreneur, I worked with the Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan in different roles. That experience taught me discipline, responsibility, and long-term thinking. Yet, I always felt a pull to do something more personal and purpose driven.
Starting YBM Biodegradable in Phuentsholing was my way of giving back. This journey is about promoting greener living and supporting His Majesty’s vision of a self-reliant and sustainable Bhutan. It is about choosing responsibility over convenience and action over hesitation.
To the younger generation and aspiring entrepreneurs, my message is simple. It is never too late to start something meaningful. Age should never stop you from doing what feels right. When an idea is guided by purpose and honesty, it has the power to grow.YBM Biodegradable is not just my business. It is my belief, my responsibility, and my small contribution toward a cleaner and more caring future. And it all begins with one choice, made today.
